- Determine job requirements
- Prepare to fit new heel block
- Interpret work order and remove old heel block without damage to shoe
- Select appropriate new heel block and cover materials
- Cut pattern for new heel block
- Cover heel block, matching leather or covering material to the original colour and design of the shoe
- Prepare the seat to provide a surface for attachment and insert a new seat piece
- Prepare heel block and top piece
- Prepare new heel block
- Select suitable commercially available top piece, if appropriate, or select appropriate top piece material, mark out and cut out to fit heel block
- Scour surface of the top piece material and heel block, if appropriate, using appropriate hand or machine operations to ensure even finish
- Check the fit between the top piece and the heel block and make adjustments, as appropriate
- Finish heel
- Replace heel block and top piece
- Check quality of securing and make adjustment, as required
- Trim back top piece to conform to heel block
- Finish off heel and top piece, as required, including staining and dying to match as close as possible original shoe colour and design
- Pack, label and store repaired shoes and record outcomes
