Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Confirm meter type and location within asset management system
   • Obtain organisational maintenance plan and manufacturer guidelines.
   • Locate meter emplacement on a map, or by GPS, or according to organisational procedures.
   • Confirm that meter type and number match maintenance plan or manufacturer guidelines.
2. Check condition of meters and metering system
   • Check components and identify faults using an asset condition checklist.
   • Establish maintenance requirements.
3. Maintain meter and meter facilities
   • Repair or replace faulty components.
   • Identify faults which need to be rectified by a third party.
4. Test and recommission
   • Ensure meter complies with standards.
   • Perform on-site re-test of meter.
   • Record faults and meter performance, maintenance and repairs.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. The candidate must be assessed in at least two of the different fault types listed in the Range of Conditions. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

reading and analysing electronic display

inputting data into electronic controller

working with low voltage wiring

reading manufacturers’ instructions, plans, exploded drawings and parts catalogues

reading verification marks

using tags and seals

confirming the site and the meter

checking meter condition

replacing components

documenting the maintenance
