Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for the management of groundwater
   • Confirm performance measures for the groundwater management plan.
   • Identify and interpret legislative requirements and organisational policies for the management of groundwater.
   • Identify stakeholder requirements that impact on the groundwater quality, quantity and conservation.
   • Gather historical groundwater information and evaluate as input to the management process.
   • Identify, interpret and assess water quality and quantity requirements.
   • Identify and interpret environmental and developmental factors that impact on the groundwater.
2. Implement the groundwater management plan
   • Inform and educate stakeholders about groundwater activity regulations.
   • Develop and coordinate management plan activities.
   • Develop and present the implementation plan
3. Monitor the groundwater management plan
   • Design and implement monitoring and testing programs.
   • Analyse, interpret and record test results.
   • Identify and investigate current and/or potential problems and report results and recommendations.
   • Monitor groundwater usage and quality according to the plan.
   • Identify, investigate and report breaches of usage provisions and changes to quality parameters.
4. Evaluate and review the performance of the groundwater management plan
   • Identify, investigate and report deviations of planned groundwater usage quality and management from plan procedures.
   • Make recommendations for changes to objectives and implementation procedures.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

performing calculations to evaluate performance of groundwater management plan

gathering, interpreting and synthesising information to underpin the implementation of the groundwater management plan, including:

historical data

current legislation and standards

stakeholder views

water quantity

quality test results

consulting stakeholders

developing implementation plans that address the objectives and requirements specified in the management plan

investigating and reporting breaches of groundwater usage

developing, implementing and overseeing testing and other monitoring arrangements to track the performance of the groundwater management plan
