Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for work
   • Identify and locate area of work from job specifications.
   • Conduct risk assessment for environmental safety.
   • Select safety equipment and fit and use personal protective equipment.
   • Select and use electrical safety equipment.
   • Identify yourself to your customers and determine customer needs.
2. Assess metallic pipes for electricity
   • Use electrical testing device to check for presence of electricity on metallic water pipe.
   • Follow organisational procedures when electricity is detected.
   • Identify and clean attachment points and apply bridging conductors if no electricity is detected.
   • Continue to enforce electrical control measures.
3. Finalise work
   • Store and secure equipment and materials.
   • Restore work site to meet environmental and organisational requirements.
   • Report and tag any damaged or faulty equipment.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

application of bridging conductors

testing of bridging conductors

identifying metallic pipes

reading plans and diagrams

using electrical testing device

using computer skills

identifying correct location of works from "dial before you dig – 1100"

identifying appropriate equipment

operating small plant and hand tools

communicating with team members

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
