Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Establish system constraints and plan and prepare work site
   • Conduct risk assessment for environmental, safety and water quality factors.
   • Determine system layout and operational problem areas from specifications or instructions.
   • Plan work required to operate and adjust water reticulation system.
   • Select and check equipment and personal protective equipment to meet safety requirements of task and site.
   • Identify and locate isolation valves and hydrants.
   • Collect and report data on system performance and usage.
2. Operate pump station
   • Identify and set or adjust pump station components.
   • Check and report on reservoir.
   • Identify system faults and adjust as required.
3. Monitor performance and usage of distribution systems
   • Identify fluctuations in supply, system changes, community demands and water quality complaints.
   • Collect and report data on system performance and usage.
   • Collect and record water samples and monitor water quality.
4. Regulate flow and pressure and identify issues
   • Inspect flow regulating systems and adjust to meet demand requirements.
   • Regulate and divert flows to facilitate repair or emergency activities.
   • Monitor and adjust pressure to meet optimum delivery.
   • Investigate and report pressure fluctuations.
   • Document and report reticulation and distribution information.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
