Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan for leak detection
   • Determine work site boundaries and leak detection requirements from plans, specifications and instructions.
   • Select and check equipment.
   • Use site inspection and service search diagrams according to work site requirements.
2. Operate leak detection equipment and report work
   • Determine and mark work site boundaries from plans and service search diagrams.
   • Select, fit and use personal protective equipment.
   • Operate leak detection equipment.
   • Mark the location of leaks.
   • Expose leaks and arrange repair according to testing outcomes and organisational and statutory requirements.
   • Review, record and report work.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

using safety equipment and personal protective equipment

interpreting plans, service diagrams, charts, specifications, policies, standard operating procedures and plumbing and drainage standards

monitoring inflows

operating computerised equipment

identifying control system faults

investigating and reporting on odour and infiltration problems in the wastewater collection and transfer systems

inspecting and selecting tools and equipment

scheduling inspections

collecting and recording wastewater samples

investigating and reporting odour sources

integrating processes

managing flow regulations, diversions and isolation of the site

identifying, addressing and reporting illegal inflows or discharges

reviewing and addressing investigation results

completing required documentation
