Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan for leak detection
   • Determine work site boundaries and leak detection requirements from plans, specifications and instructions.
   • Select and check equipment.

2. Operate leak detection equipment and report work
   • Determine and mark work site boundaries from plans and service search diagrams.
   • Select, fit and use personal protective equipment.
   • Operate leak detection equipment.
   • Mark the location of leaks.
   • Expose leaks and arrange repair according to testing outcomes and organisational and statutory requirements.
   • Review, record and report work.

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

interpreting plans, specifications, policies and procedures

providing maintenance records for equipment

identifying safety risks and hazards

planning leak detection activities

locating, identifying and reporting leaks in water distribution networks

operating leak detection equipment

locating and marking leaks and arranging repair activities

completing documentation

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
