Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for construction and installation
   • Determine work requirements for construction and installation of water distribution system pipes and assets from plans, specifications and instructions.
   • Perform site checks to prevent damage to other utilities.
   • Select and check equipment and tools to meet safety and work requirements of task and site.
   • Select, fit and use personal protective equipment.
2. Construct and install distribution assets, pipes and associated fittings
   • Excavate and prepare trenches.
   • Lay bedding or foundation.
   • Inspect pipes and fittings, and lay or join them.
   • Install or place prefabricated components.
   • Backfill excavations according to specifications.
3. Confirm work quality
   • Check constructed and installed distribution assets, pipes and fittings to ensure that specifications are met.
   • Check water quality testing results to ensure that organisational requirements are met.
4. Finalise work
   • Check, maintain and store equipment, tools and materials.
   • Restore work site.
   • Complete workplace records and as constructed drawings, and process as required.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

interpreting plans, instructions and standard operating procedures

performing work-related calculations

using tools and machinery

identifying hazards
