Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for testing and commissioning
   • Check plans to locate features and the section to be tested.
   • Identify and interpret the system operation requirements.
   • Check and schedule vacuum testing and commissioning tasks.
   • Identify and assess potential hazards and take required preventative measures.
   • Select and use tools and equipment.
   • Check testing equipment for accuracy and identify and correct malfunctions.
2. Maintain water system hygiene
   • Arrange disinfection.
   • Clean the relevant section of the distribution system.
   • Dispose of flushing.
3. Test the pipeline system
   • Test equipment by determining the correct test pressure for the pipeline and by fitting gauges of the correct range.
   • Locate and report failed pipes, joints and fittings and reschedule testing.
   • Vacuum test concrete access chambers.
4. Commission the distribution system
   • Ensure the distribution system is operational.
   • Check, maintain and store equipment, tools and materials.
   • Restore the work site.
5. Record and report results
   • Maintain workplace and calibration records and certificates.
   • Collect and store all testing and compliance results.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. The candidate must be assessed using one or more cleaning techniques listed in the Range of Conditions. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

interpreting and applying a range of technical documents

conducting test procedures

monitoring work processes and ensuring safe work practices

testing pipes

identifying system faults

testing and commissioning water distribution systems

planning the testing of water distribution systems

identifying and analysing system requirements

identifying and addressing hazards

using suitable protective equipment

maintaining the quality of water in the system

commissioning the distribution system

restoring worksite and equipment

completing required reports and records
