Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Undertake inspection
   • Select, fit and use safety equipment, including personal protective equipment.
   • Carry out routine inspections of dams and storages.
   • Read seepage flow device gauge and use table to translate, and record information.
   • Identify assets and structural components requiring routine maintenance or repairs.
2. Undertake maintenance of dam or storage equipment and structures
   • Select and check equipment and materials required for maintenance and repair tasks.
   • Carry out routine maintenance.
   • Operate basic flow control, measuring, surveillance and ancillary devices as part of routine checks.
3. Report on dam or storage inspection and maintenance
   • Communicate abnormal observations and potentially serious maintenance issues with line management.
   • Complete dam inspection reports and routine maintenance reports and forward to relevant personnel.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

undertaking visual inspections

exercising valves

performing work-related calculations

measuring and recording seepage flow

operating controls and ancillary equipment according to standard operating procedures

following policies, procedures and standards

using safety and personal protective equipment

adjusting mechanical and electrical systems

identifying control system faults

conducting routine inspections of dams and storages according to organisational requirements

taking readings from specified devices

identifying and reporting repair and maintenance requirements

conducting routine basic maintenance according to organisational maintenance plans

completing inspection and maintenance reports

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
