Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare work
   • Collect data from ground water.
   • Establish evaporation pond capacity.
   • Develop salt interception plan.
2. Operate salt interception works
   • Identify, set or adjust pump station components.
   • Carry out routine security inspections and cleaning duties.
   • Operate pump station.
3. Maintain salt interception works
   • Conduct routine maintenance of salinity pump stations.
   • Conduct acid dosing of salinity lines.
   • Maintain saline water collection and disposal pipelines.
   • Conduct repairs to pipe lines and valves.
   • Undertake minor civil construction works.
4. Enhance salt interception performance
   • Gather data and create a report on salt interception scheme performance.
   • Optimise salt interception performance.
   • Undertake hydraulic performance of saline collection and disposal pipelines.

   • Collect required data from monitoring points.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

gathering bore data

locking and tagging out of equipment

storing, handling and using chemicals

collecting samples and conducting water tests

maintaining pumps, valves, pipes, dose acids

maintaining bores and piezometers

undertaking minor civil works including at least one of:

pipeline construction

concrete works

metal fabrication

optimising pipelines and pump stations

repairing pipelines and valves

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
