Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare for work
   • Interpret relevant legislation and organisational rules and requirements.
   • Locate bore sites from plans and job specifications.
   • Schedule and plan inspection.
   • Select, check and prepare basic equipment to monitor water extraction.
2. Monitor and operate groundwater extraction systems
   • Monitor designated locations within groundwater source area according to agreed schedule.
   • Conduct inspection taking readings of meters for water depth and water quality.
   • Check the integrity of assets.
   • Collect samples.
   • Make adjustments to flows when required.
   • Identify breaches of legislative and organisational requirements.
3. Identify and report risks, breaches and complaints
   • Identify risks to public, users and environment.
   • Identify and report breaches of relevant legislation.
   • Investigate and report complaints from the public and users regarding water allocation and quality.

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the candidate must demonstrate evidence of performance of the following on at least one occasion.

interpreting plans, instructions and standard operating procedures

identifying and preventing well contamination

adjusting pump flows

isolating tag and lock out pumps

reading meters

taking samples

conducting risk assessment

inspecting bore assets

reading levels

calculating recharge and extraction rates

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence must satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria. If not otherwise specified the depth of knowledge demonstrated must be appropriate to the job context of the candidate.
