Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for production
   • Access, interpret and apply policy and procedure documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Plan and prepare work activity to meet the required production outcomes
   • Receive, interpret and clarify shift changeover details
   • Establish and maintain communications with others
   • Coordinate shift activities with others
   • Identify, address and report potential risks and hazards
   • Complete computer systems and equipment pre-start checks
   • Identify, address and report environmental issues
   • Check previous shift details and record in writing outstanding maintenance inspections and identified defects
2. Allocate and log resources
   • Allocate and log hauling equipment to loading equipment
   • Interpret data and re-allocate equipment to maintain productivity and to meet changing conditions
   • Access employee and contractor details and allocate personnel to specific types of plant/equipment to ensure productivity
   • Maintain records of employee equipment productivity
3. Monitor and report plant/equipment activity
   • Monitor and report the current status of operation/production and plant/equipment
   • Continuously monitor data to identify the location of equipment on site
   • Determine from data the location of where material is being moved, haul distances, and the location for dumping of materials
   • Interpret data to determine and generate reports on plant/equipment usage, availability and productivity
   • Capture data for measuring operational outputs and resource usage, and report total usage and resource consumption rates
4. Monitor movement of materials
   • Log the movement of plant/equipment and the quantities of materials moved
   • Monitor and report stock levels for availability of dispatched materials
   • Monitor and report productivity rates and cycle times

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of monitoring of site production activities including:

operating computers to communicate with others and monitor site production activities

applying diagnostic techniques to improve and resolve issues for site production

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the site production activities that meets all of the required outcomes including:

working effectively in a team to problem solve, monitor and maintain site production activities

participating in shift change over and communicates details clearly and concisely to others

demonstrates completion of monitoring site production activities that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

determining risks and hazards that may affect operations and takes action within their authority to remedy

reporting risks and hazards to others when unable to remedy

monitoring and reporting plant and machinery activity

maintaining written logs of:

hauling equipment to loading equipment

the movement of plant/equipment and the quantities of materials moved

interpreting relevant data

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of monitoring site production activities through:

relevant organisational policy and procedures

using computerised monitoring and control systems

monitoring, recording and generating reports

allocating and re-allocating site equipment and personnel

consolidating end-of-shift reports

managing and adapting shift production priorities

complying with control and access to site
