Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of conduct of aggregate spreader box operations, including:

selecting and using required tools and equipment

setting up and disconnecting the spreader box

spreading aggregate including coordination opening and closing of spreader box

hand spreading and spotting

works effectively with others to conduct aggregate spreader box operations that meets all of the required outcomes, including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and systems such as signage to advise others of work activity and exclusion zone

instructing driver to adjust speed, line or angle of body as required

demonstrates completion of conducting aggregate spreader box operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes including:

identifying, reporting and recording hazards and risks

a minimum of four (4) transverse paper joints are placed, picked up and disposed of

a minimum of six (6) truckloads of at least two (2) different aggregate are spread to the design application rate. It must include three (3) runs of wings, tapers and turning lanes on at least three (3) sites varying in complexity


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of conducting aggregate spreader box operations through:

applying legislative, organisational and site requirements and procedures for:

site and equipment safety requirements

sprayed seal types

aggregate types and sizes

spreader box operations

project quality requirements

housekeeping

equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

applying operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures for the spreader box

applying site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

applying processes for the calculation of material requirements, application rates and travel speed

safety data sheets and materials handling methods
