Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of pavement sweeping operations including:

selecting and using the required tools and equipment

checking and maintaining broom

applying correct sweeping patterns and methods

minimising environmental damage

works effectively with others to undertake and complete pavement sweeping operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and systems such as signage to advise others of work activity and exclusion zone

demonstrates completion of conducting pavement sweeping operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifying recording and reporting hazards and risks

conducting sweeping operations appropriates for conditions including:

wind direction

minimising broom wear

minimising impact on other finished work and/or work in progress

amount of excessive material

surface type

minimise environmental damage

a minimum of 2000m2 are to be swept on each of three (3) projects, including primer-seal or priming, to job specifications

a minimum of 2000m2 are to be swept on each of three (3) projects, including asphalt or sealed or slurry, to job specifications

a minimum of 2000m2 are to be swept on each of three (3) projects removing loose aggregate from newly completed primer-seal or seal, to job specifications


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of conducting pavement sweeping operations through:

applying legislative, organisational and site requirements and procedures for:

site and equipment safety requirements

pavement sweeping operations

operating platforms for use with mounted broom attachments

primer-seal, seal, asphalt and aggregate materials

project quality requirements

housekeeping

equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

applying operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures

applying site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

applying processes for the calculation of material removal, sweeping patterns and travel speed

safety data sheets and materials handling methods
