Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient conducting of profile planer operations: including:

selecting and using required tools and equipment

pre-start, start-up, park and shutdown

operate profile planer to achieve specified tolerances, required line and level

select, remove and fit attachments

relocate the profile planer

maintain profile planer

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the profile planer operations that meets all of the required outcomes, including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and systems such as signage to advise others of work activity and exclusion zone

demonstrates completion of conducting profile planer operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifying, reporting and recording hazards and risks

conduct of profile planer operations in a minimum of two (2) different material types/surfaces types and are to include the mandatory tasks of:

removal/excavation of materials to a thickness and a line/level

loading of trucks

stockpiling

operations including:

asphalt pavement

milling

edge planning

straight work

confined work (such as intersection, carpark etc)

the application of emergency procedures

the conduct of authorised operator maintenance


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of conducting profile planer operations through:

applying legislative, organisational and site requirements and procedures for:

site and equipment safety requirements

civil construction terminology

methods of changing machine attachments

safe operating techniques in all terrain

basic earthworks calculations

housekeeping

profile planer types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

basic soil types and characteristics

applying basic principles of soil compaction

applying profile planer techniques related to essential tasks

interpreting engineering drawings and sketches

applying and monitoring operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures

applying site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

materials safety data sheets and materials handling methods

monitoring project quality requirements

preparing and/or implementing JSAs/JSEA/safe work method statements
