Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of the conduct of bitumen tanker operations including:

select and use relevant tools and equipment safely

identify and report on hazards related to the worksite and work activity

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the conduct of bitumen tanker operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

demonstrates completion of conducting bitumen tanker operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

transfer a minimum of three (3) different materials, one of which must be a PMB;

loaded from a refinery or depot

mixed and heated

transferred to at least one roadside and one storage depot

calculation and recording of all details for the activities

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in conducting bitumen tanker operations through:

accessing, interpreting and applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

site and equipment safety requirements

heating bitumen

housekeeping

equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

understanding bituminous materials and their characteristics

complying with the operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures

safety data sheets and materials handling methods

understanding the treatment for bitumen burns

complying with the quality requirements and environmental systems and standards

understanding the handling and safe use of bitumen hoses

preparing and/or implementing JSAs/JSEA/safe work method statements
