Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for installing pre-cast gully pits
   • Access, interpret and apply pre-cast gully pits documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work/plans/specifications requirements
   • Identify, obtain and implement traffic signage requirements
   • Select, and check for faults, equipment/tools for work activities
   • Identify, confirm and apply environmental protection requirements
   • Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Install gully pits
   • Advise plant operator of excavation and base preparation requirements
   • Determine location and positioning of gully pits
   • Set out work area safely to design specifications
   • Control ingress of water by dewatering
   • Position, fabricate or install main components of the pre-cast unit
   • Seal finished surface by rendering where specified
   • Position and attach auxiliary components or modifications to pre-cast unit
   • Inspect and repair new and existing gully pits
3. Clean up
   • Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
   • Clean, check, maintain and store plant, tools and equipment

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of installation of pre-cast gully pits including:

applying problem solving and troubleshooting techniques

applying diagnostic techniques

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the installation of pre-cast gully pits that meets all of the required outcomes including:

communicating clearly and concisely with others to confirm work/plans/specifications

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

demonstrates completion of installing pre-cast gully pits that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

determining location and positioning of gully pits

installing gully pits for stormwater systems

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

reading and interpreting engineering drawings

identifying equipment types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

identifying site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities
