Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable, documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of installing signs including:

identifying and applying relevant drawings and job specifications

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

identifying, obtaining, confirming and implementing signage requirements and availability of signs

selecting and checking for faults, tools and equipment to carry out tasks surveying location of the site in accordance with job drawings and specifications

arranging site access in accordance with safe working procedures

preparing delivery site for risk control

determining availability of loading/unloading equipment

arranging transportation of signage

protecting signs appropriately and pack them securely for transportation

loading, transporting and off-loading signs and equipment correctly

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the installation of signs in a way that meets all required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

monitoring hazards and identifying and communicating changes to the work environment during the work process

demonstrates completion of installing signs that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

laying out and checking sign components prior to assembly

confirming correct signage against specifications

assembling sign on or off site as appropriate

determining method of erection according to job requirements

preparing support materials according to drawings and specifications

installing fastenings to manufacturer’s recommendations

bracing support structure safely

erecting sign efficiently and safely

clearing work area and recycling or disposing of materials

cleaning, checking, maintaining and storing plant and equipment

the loading, transportation, unloading and installation of a minimum of three different free standing signs with at least one (1) being a free standing sign requiring the installation of dual supports


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in installing signs through:

accessing, interpreting and applying, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

for installing designated signs

identifying and managing risks

clarifying and confirming permits and clearances in accordance with regulatory authority requirements

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues and ground conditions

setting up work activity

site isolation and traffic control responsibilities

work health and safety

arranging site access

arranging transport and loading activities

managing waste

selecting and checking for faults, tools and equipment to carry out tasks carrying out work to specifications

applying effective sign installation techniques
