Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

competently completes all evidence activities with the ability to transfer and apply skills and knowledge to new situations and environments on more than one occasion

locates and applies applicable documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient installation of utility poles including:

identifying and applying relevant job drawings and specifications to all work activities

confirming safety requirements

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

identifying, obtaining, confirming and implementing requirements for signage

selecting and checking for faults, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues and ground conditions

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the installation of utility poles in a way that meets all of the required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

monitoring hazards and identifying and communicating changes to the work environment during the work process

demonstrates completion of installing utility poles that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

erecting utility poles in keeping with drawings and specifications

conducting a clean-up of the work area and disposing of waste

as an individual or as a member of a two-three (2-3) person team, undertake and complete the installation of two utility poles to specification


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in installing utility poles through:

accessing, interpreting and applying, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

identifying and managing risks

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues and ground conditions

setting up work activity

site isolation and traffic control responsibilities

work health and safety

managing waste

selecting and checking for faults, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

carrying out work to drawings and specifications

applying effective installation techniques
