Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to apply the principles of rigid pavement construction
   • Access, interpret and apply rigid pavement construction documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Identify and confirm specific task requirements
   • Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage and barriers requirements
   • Identify, locate, check for faults and supply all plant, tools and equipment
   • Identify, address and report on ground conditions
   • Ensure a job plan is available which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements
2. Apply the principles of rigid pavement construction
   • Ensure clear, concise and timely verbal and written instructions are communicated to team members and others involved
   • Confirm the resources are available to meet the specific task requirements
   • Set out tasks to ensure effective completion of the work activity
3. Oversee the execution of tasks
   • Monitor rigid pavement construction performance to ensure it meets task requirements
   • Supply coaching solutions where tasks require problem solving
   • Initiate adjustments to work practices or job plan to ensure safe execution of work and achievement of required outcomes
   • Ensure plant equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded
   • Monitor movements and hazards and identify and communicate changes to the work environment during the work process
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
   • Ensure the clearing of the work area and disposal of, reuse or recycling of materials
   • Clean, check, maintain and store machinery, tools and equipment
5. Report on the execution of tasks
   • Complete and submit written reports
   • Recommend corrective actions to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the execution of tasks

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the appropriate procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient supervision of rigid pavement construction tasks including:

accessing, interpreting and applying documentation for applying the principles of rigid pavement construction

identifying and applying relevant specifications to all work activities

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

identifying, obtaining, confirming and supervising the implementation of signage and barrier requirements

selecting and checking for faults all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues and ground conditions

ensuring a job plan is available and communicated which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements

works effectively with others to plan, prepare and conduct the supervision of rigid pavement construction tasks to meet all requirements including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to allocate work tasks and give work instructions

monitoring movements and hazards and identifying and communicating changes to the work environment during the work process

demonstrates completion of the principles of rigid pavement construction that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

ensuring the provision of all plant, tools, equipment and resources

supervising the application of correct and effective techniques for rigid pavement construction

supplying coaching solutions where tasks require problem solving

ensuring plant, equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded

supervising the clearing of the work area and disposing of, reusing, recycling or storing of materials

reporting on the execution of tasks

recommending improvements to the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the execution of tasks

evidence of the successful supervision of rigid pavement construction tasks to meet all job and specification requirements

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in applying the principles of rigid pavement construction through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

work health and safety
