Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare to supervise civil works contractors
   • Access, interpret and apply civil work documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Ensure the contractor has a job plan available and ensure best use of the available resources that meet the task requirements
   • Identify resources required to complete the tasks
2. Ensure appropriate initiation of tasks is carried out
   • Confirm that the contractor has the required resources
   • Ensure the contractor has communicated clear and timely instructions to team members and others involved
   • Set out tasks as required for the effective completion of the civil works
3. Oversee the execution of tasks
   • Monitor civil works contractors’ performance and ensure they achieve the required outcomes
   • Ensure the safe, effective and efficient conduct of the tasks
   • Initiate adjustments to civil works practice or job plan and ensure safe execution of work and achievement of required outcomes
   • Ensure plant equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded
4. Report on the execution of tasks
   • Complete and submit written and verbal reports
   • Recommend improvements to e safety, efficiency and effectiveness

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements appropriate procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient supervision of civil works contractors including accessing, interpreting and applying:

meteorological data

material properties and test results, including compaction test results

project site geotechnical data

project site hydrological data

project plans and drawings

civil works test results materials properties and test results

works effectively with others to supervise civil works contractors that meets all the required outcomes including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

consulting with stakeholders

demonstrates completion of supervising civil works construction that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

preparing a job plan that is to include:
