Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of the inspection, testing and maintenance of diesel engine systems and their ancillary systems including:

applying operational safety requirements

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information

inspecting and testing engine and ancillary systems and diagnosing and recording existing or identified faults

routine engine and ancillary system maintenance

overhauling of engine and ancillary systems

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the inspection, testing and maintenance of diesel engine systems and their ancillary systems that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

demonstrates completion of the inspection, testing and maintenance of diesel engine systems and their ancillary systems which safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

selecting and using appropriate inspection and testing methods

diagnosing and rectifying faults

completing routine maintenance

completing overhaul

completing and maintaining inspection, testing and maintenance records


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in completion of the inspection, testing and maintenance of diesel engine systems and their ancillary systems through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures for;

work health and safety

environmental principles/procedures

equipment safety requirements

written and verbal workplace communication

isolation and lock-out

service and maintenance reporting requirements

selecting and using plant, tools and equipment
