Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan for inspection, testing and maintenance of cooling systems on diesel engine systems
   • Access, interpret, inspect, test and maintain cooling systems on diesel engine systems apply documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret clarify, confirm and apply verbal and written work instructions
   • Conduct a toolbox talk with others at the site prior to commencing and during work activities
   • Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues and implement control measures
   • Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for an emergency
2. Prepare for inspection, testing and maintenance of cooling systems on diesel engine systems
   • Coordinate activities with others prior to commencement of, during, and on completion of the work activity
   • Identify and obtain items and tools required for the safe, effective and efficient conduct of the tasks
   • Select and wear personal protection equipment appropriate for work activities

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the inspection, testing and maintenance of cooling systems on diesel engine systems that meets all of the required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

monitoring movements and hazards and identifying and communicating changes to the work environment during the work process

demonstrates completion of inspecting, testing and maintaining cooling systems on diesel engine systems that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

selecting and operating testing equipment and methods

carrying out testing and fault finding of cooling systems

diagnosing and recording existing identified faults

carrying out maintenance of cooling systems on diesel engine systems in accordance with the work requirements
