Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify site specific environmental and heritage concerns
   • Access, interpret and apply environmental documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Identify and record environmental and heritage issues
   • Accurately identify the nature of environment and/or heritage concerns
   • Enact emergency plan
   • Enact required isolation procedures
   • Remove and/or contain identified contaminants
2. Assess and respond to environmental and heritage concerns
   • Inspect site on receipt of clearances to confirm environment and/or heritage issues
   • Complete all required records and documentation accurately and promptly
3. Work within environmental and heritage guidelines
   • Adhere to environment and heritage guidelines
   • Conform to environmental and heritage guidelines in the organisation of work activities
   • Contact and inform/report to authorities of environmental and/or heritage issues

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

demonstrates completion of identifying and assessing environmental and heritage concerns that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

organising work activities to comply with environmental and heritage procedures and issues

identifying environmental and heritage issues or concerns

clearly documenting and communicating environmental and heritage issues or concerns

preparing for emergency situations

identifying contaminants

removing and/or containing contaminants

identifying and correctly informing the appropriate authorities of environmental and heritage issues

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of identify and assess environmental and heritage concerns through:

relevant contamination principles

site emergency procedures

relevant environmental and heritage procedures

relevant equipment safety requirements

site fire management strategies

hazardous goods procedures and consequences of spills

isolation procedures

WHS procedures
