Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify current practices in relation to resource usage
   • Access, interpret and apply environmentally sustainable work practices documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Identify environmental regulations applying to the enterprise
   • Identify procedures for assessing compliance
2. Review and communicate identified improvements
   • Review current work processes, access information and data, and identify areas for improvement
   • Collect and organise information from a range of sources to provide information/advice and tools/resources for improvement opportunities
   • Seek input from stakeholders, key personnel and specialists
   • Communicate proposed improvements
3. Apply improvement strategies
   • Use appropriate techniques and tools to assist in achieving efficiencies
   • Apply continuous improvement strategies to own work area
   • Apply approved environmental and resource efficiency management suggestions
4. Monitor performance
   • Use evaluation and monitoring tools and technology
   • Report on progress against efficiency targets
   • Promote organisational improvement strategies

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete effective application of environmentally sustainable work practices to meet all required outcomes including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

demonstrates completion of applying environmentally sustainable work practices that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

organising work activities to comply with environmentally sustainable practices

reviewing, identifying and recording areas for improvement

working with stakeholders and clearly communicating recommended improvements

applying continuous improvement strategies

using evaluation and monitoring systems

processing written records and reports

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of applying environmentally sustainable work practices through:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures

work health and safety

environmental and energy efficiency issues, systems and procedures

knowledge of the organisational structure, reporting channels and procedures

complying with the quality assurance systems

improving sustainability in the workplace
