Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures to conduct fire team operations

implements requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective conducting of fire team operations including:

identifying and apply hazard and potential hazard procedures

applying technical fire operational information

applying isolation and tagging procedures

selecting and wearing appropriate protective clothing and appliances

identifying hazardous situation required responses

applying evacuation procedures

applying fire fighting techniques

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the conducting of fire team operations that meets all of the required outcomes including:

working as part of a team

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating to confirm work/plans/specifications

applying decision making and troubleshooting techniques

demonstrates completion of conducting fire team operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

fighting or containing fires including:

selecting appliances and equipment appropriate to the fire circumstances

continually monitor conditions in the fire area and modify firefighting techniques/applications

communicating with team members

finalising operations including:

Isolating, roping-off, securing and monitoring fire area

avoiding fire recurrence by:

watering

raking down

chemical application


Knowledge Evidence

Specific knowledge is required to achieve the Performance Criteria of this unit, particularly its application in a variety of circumstances in which the unit may be used. This includes knowledge of the following, as required to conduct fire team operations:

legislative and site rules

causes, characteristics, hazards and responses to the types of fire

site gases and characteristics

basic site geology and survey information related to fire operations

basic building structural information related to fire operations

fire fighting equipment

fire fighting techniques

isolation and tagging procedures

basic teamwork

critical situation dynamics and control

communication and reporting procedures

initial response First Aid
