Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements appropriate procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient application and monitoring underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems including:

assessing the situation and making decisions

developing and applying contingency plans

questioning to determine accurate details

emergency response, evacuation and action plans

accessing, interpreting and applying technical and safety information

managing risks and hazards

selecting and using personal protective equipment

locating and setting up a fresh air base

collect, collate, interpret and report incident/emergency data

works effectively with others to apply and monitor underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems that meets all the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to coordinate work activities

operating emergency communication systems

demonstrates completion of applying and monitoring underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

isolating potential risks and hazards using barricading techniques

identifies training needs and prepares training plans

identifies, assess and communicates types and scope of incidents

collecting, analysis and validation of preparedness and response data

locating and applying the use of emergency equipment

participating in audits, debriefs and reviews of incidents and procedures


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in the apply and monitor underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems through:

audit and review processes and techniques

training and assessment principles

training systems

emergency response and evacuation planning processes and techniques

structure of emergency procedures guidelines

intervention and control techniques for heating, fires, explosions, outburst, or inrushes

the effects of hot and humid atmospheres

escape strategies and technology

mine environmental risks and controls

equipment requirements for different types of emergency

call-out procedures

the roles of external agencies

the structure, role and responsibilities of the Incident Control

the trigger points to initiate emergency response to alarms

understanding of guidance systems and markers

site emergency plans

the types of adverse environmental conditions

the types of hazards and incidents on a mine site
