Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of handling and securing cargo including:

planning and preparing equipment, handling and storing cargo, and handling and storing bulk cargo

implement safe working limits when handling and lifting cargo

assess, interpret and apply information including technical information

works effectively with others to undertake and complete handling and securing cargo that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communication techniques and systems to convey information, coordination and meaning

demonstrates completion of handling and storing cargo that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifies remedial action to be taken to deal with errors, omissions and shortages for handling and storing cargo demonstrating at least three (3) of the following processes to:

report

record

rectify

repair

adjust

replace

handle, check, move, store cargo and bulk cargo in at least (2) of the following cargo products:

fluids

powder

containers

restrained palletised

loose palletised

tubulars

communicating with the crane operator using appropriate signals to direct movement of loads


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when handling and storing cargo:

identifying and complying with WHS obligations

complying with company and statutory guidelines, procedures and practices

identifying crane operations and operator responsibilities

identifying and complying safe lifting and handling techniques

identifying and using slinging requirements

identifying communication systems and techniques

complying with permit to work system

identifying and complying with operational requirements and principles of equipment
