Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to secure cargo/containers
- Access, interpret and apply compliance documentation relevant to the work activity
- Prepare and maintain work area
- Report unsafe work practices and/or equipment to appropriate personnel
- Select personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Erect formwork where no lashing points exist
- Read and interpret lashing plan
- Lash and unlash cargo
- Conduct work according to site procedures and relevant legislation and any special requirements of the cargo
- Identify lashing points and use appropriate fittings, lashing equipment and securing equipment for each lashing point
- Lash and secure cargo to lashing points ensuring the correct spread of lashings and that lashings are secured, attached and tensioned
- Securely fasten tensioners
- When unlashing, release, disconnect and remove fittings from the cargo
- Place lashing equipment in designated storage areas or clear from work area
- Ensure lashing/unlashing operations cause no injury to personnel or damage to machinery or cargo
- Protect cargo from weather
- Pack and unpack cargo
- Identify and report damaged cargo following enterprise procedures
- Sort and stack cargo prior to packing or after unpacking ensuring the stack is in the correct location, in accordance with relevant Australian standards, safety codes and site operating procedures
- Identify cargo through the interpretation of marks or numbers
- Maintain tight stow of cargo
- Handle cargo ensuring no injury to personnel or damage to cargo or equipment
