Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of securing cargo including:

assessing operational capability of equipment used and work processes selected

establishing work plans

describing consequences

completing work tasks

identifying improvements for work activity

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the securing of cargo that meet all of the required outcomes including:

communicating and coordinating activities with others throughout the work activity

demonstrates completion of securing cargo that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

applying safety precautions and report issues

lashing the cargo

unlashing the cargo

protecting the cargo from the weather

packing the cargo

unpacking the cargo

checking cargo identification and complete all documentation


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when securing cargo:

site layout and operating procedures

focus of operation of work systems, equipment, management and site operating systems

impact of job on enterprise and individual performance

application of relevant industrial requirements

and correct use of equipment, processes and procedures used within context of the job

modification of activities dependent of differing workplace contexts, risk situations and environments

identification of cargo, container and goods, coding IMDG markings and, where applicable, emergency information panels

relevant bond, quarantine other legislative requirements

identification and correct use of equipment, processes and procedures

relevant handling and safety codes

lashing and protection procedures

marking and numbering of cargo
