Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare for assisting with air drilling
- Access, interpret and apply compliance documentation relevant to guided boring activity
- Obtain, confirm and apply work instructions for the allocated task
- Identify, manage and report all potential hazards and risks associated with handling, loading, moving, using and storing guided boring equipment
- Resolve coordination requirements with others at the site prior to commencing and during work activities
- Load, unload, move, handle, follow workplace procedures for the use and storage of guided boring equipment and all associated tools and connecting equipment
- Take necessary safety precautions when handling potentially contaminated spoil
- Wear all necessary personal protective equipment and protective clothing when assisting with guided boring operations
- Support the guided boring process
- Fit/remove bits/reamers to/from the drill string
- Lay out drill string in readiness for tripping/drilling
- Add/remove drill pipe to/from the drill string
- Inspect drill pipe, bits, threads and associated equipment for damage
- Observe housekeeping and site safety measures while supporting guided boring operations
- Use pipe/casing handling equipment
- Mix drilling fluids
- Wear appropriate protective clothing
- Check labels and read and interpret safety information/ hazard codes
- Apply correct mixing procedure for the drilling fluid
- Carry out storage of drilling mud components and additives safely and according to manufacturer's recommendations
- Perform basic tests on the fluid and the results recorded/reported as required
- Carry out basic maintenance of tools and equipment
