Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare or recover equipment
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation and procedures for recovering equipment and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret and clarify the recovery requirements
   • Access and apply safety information and procedures, including use of personal protective equipment
   • Select and prepare required materials
   • Identify, address and report potential hazards and risks, environmental and heritage issues
   • Conduct pre-start checks
   • Assist in the preparation of a recovery plan
2. Recover and access equipment
   • Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown activities, if required
   • Install and operate recovery equipment
   • Recover equipment systematically, with minimal loss and damage of equipment
   • Carry out pushing and towing of equipment and plant safely
   • Apply and interpret diagnostic operations on recovered equipment
   • Assess if decommissioning of equipment is required and take action
3. Conduct housekeeping activities
   • Clean equipment
   • Carry out, identify and manage removal of spills
   • Clean and store attachments and other ancillary equipment
   • Complete all required written records and documentation accurately and promptly

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the recovery of equipment that meets all of the required outcomes, including:

assisting in the preparation of recovery plan

maintaining written and verbal recording and reporting requirements and procedures

using a range of communication techniques and equipment to convey information to others

demonstrates completion of the recovery of equipment that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

conducting pre-start checks

completing installation and operation of recovery equipment

recovering equipment systematically

completing pushing and towing of equipment and plant

completing diagnostic operations on recovered equipment
