Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

demonstrates completion of the examination and maintenance of mine safety that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

attaining all work and site requirements to examine mine safety

reading, interpreting and applying geological and survey information used for establishing activity that maintains site safety

providing clear and timely instruction and supervision to those involved in mine safety

conducting routine and non-routine examination of site activity

applying procedures to recognise potential hazards and apply corrective measures according to site/legislative procedures

undertaking investigation procedures for noncompliance issues identified and reporting the outcomes and methods for resolving noncompliance

preparing technical written report on inspections, investigations and outcomes of response activities


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of examining and maintaining mine safety through:

relevant licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements as site activity requires

relevant site and equipment safety requirements

relevant site and legislative safety inspections

interpreting site geological, geographical and survey data

knowledge and application of shot firing procedures and practices

determining equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

relevant operational and maintenance procedures

identifying and complying with risk management procedures
