Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Perform routine equipment maintenance.
   • Access and interpret maintenance schedules and manufacturer instructions.
   • Examine and check equipment according to maintenance schedules.
   • Check serviceability of emergency equipment.
2. Conduct equipment repairs.
   • Conduct minor repairs to maintain safe and effective use of equipment, within scope of responsibility.
   • Report repairs which cannot be carried out to supervisor.
   • Tag and isolate faulty equipment.
   • Check maintenance equipment in a regular and timely manner.
3. Store equipment to maintain serviceable condition.
   • Store and handle equipment according to manufacturer instructions.
   • Maintain storage facilities in a clean and tidy condition.
   • Maintain access and egress of storage facilities in the case of an emergency.
   • Secure storage facilities.
   • Complete records of routine maintenance and repairs.

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and:

safely conduct at least six of the following minor maintenance tasks on equipment within industry realistic timeframes over five service periods:

cleaning

lubricating

reinflating

checking for damage

restocking or refilling

repairing

calibration

storing

consistently monitor storage and condition of the following equipment over five service periods:

equipment used within the facility

participant or client-specific equipment

emergency equipment

large items requiring lifting and assembly.

Demonstrated knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit:

work health and safety/occupational health and safety

equipment repair techniques relevant to the equipment being maintained to enable safe and appropriate equipment repair

factors to consider when checking equipment serviceability to enable equipment to be maintained to a safe standard

manufacturer guidelines and codes of practice for equipment maintenance and repair, where relevant

safety standards for equipment within area of responsibility.
