numeracy skills to calculate count and load appropriate numbers of required touring equipment and supplies

literacy skills to read and interpret documents such as technical itineraries checklists tour briefs and passenger profiles providing details of types and amounts of equipment and supplies to be loaded

writing skills to be able to complete predeparture documents such as checklists basic fault reports and supply lists

The following knowledge must be assessed as part of this unit

basic product knowledge of the tours being operated

working knowledge of the operation of the equipment used and supplies required for the tours being operated

the fundamental features of hazardous items and safe methods of packing in various forms of transportation to minimise injury

Evidence of the following is essential

knowledge of the fundamental features of hazardous items and safe methods of packing in various forms of transportation to minimise injury

ability to check and effectively load equipment and supplies for multiple tours according to operational documentation

project or work activities that show the candidate conducting predeparture checks for a nominated operation on multiple occasions

completion of loading and predeparture checks within typical workplace time constraints

Context of and specific resources for assessment

Assessment must ensure

demonstration of skills within a venue such as an operational depot where predeparture checks take place

access to the full range of supplies and equipment used in the operation of a tour

realistic ratios of operational staff to equipment and supplies

use of a full range of operational tour documentation

Methods of assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge The following examples are appropriate for this unit

direct observation of the candidate loading equipment and supplies and conducting predeparture checks

review of loading and checking plans notes or operational checklists prepared by the candidate

written and oral questioning to test knowledge of OHS issues and legislative requirements pertaining to loading and checking equipment and supplies

written and oral questioning to test knowledge of the candidates interpretation of operational tour documentation

review of portfolios of evidence and thirdparty workplace reports of onthejob performance by the candidate
