REQUIRED SKILLS

This describes the basic skills required for this unit

Listen to and interpret verbal instructions and information concerning work activities

Read and interpret written instructions and procedures relevant to work activities on board a coastal vessel

Collaborate with other crew members in the course of work activities

Interpret and apply established communication practices including standard marine terms and phrases

Identify interpersonal problems that may arise during operations on a vessel and take appropriate action to resolve problems identified

Take action to avoid discrimination and harassment and report any identified incidents in accordance with policies and regulations

Context of assessment

Assessment of competency must comply with the assessment requirements of the relevant maritime regulations

Assessment of this unit must be undertaken within relevant marine authority approved and audited arrangements by a registered training organisation

As a minimum assessment of knowledge must be conducted through appropriate writtenoral examinations and

Appropriate practical assessment must occur

at the registered training organisation andor

ii

on an appropriate working or training vessel
