Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Inspect tools and equipment
   • Job hazards are identified and required action is taken to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards
   • Rigging gear is removed and inspected for damage and defects
   • Damaged and defective gear is tagged and segregated for testing/repair/disposal by a qualified person
2. Secure outriggers
   • Any outriggers, stabilisers, counterweights and attachments are secured and stowed in accordance with manufacturer instructions
   • Outrigger packing is dismantled and stowed securely
3. Pack and store tools and equipment
   • Gear is cleaned as required and stored appropriately
   • Additional gear is returned to depot, marked off and stored in accordance with workplace procedures
   • Other personnel are assisted as necessary to ensure efficient pack up
4. Complete records
   • Workplace documentation is completed in accordance with workplace procedures
   • Required workplace records are updated and processed accurately and promptly

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures checking condition of equipment communicating effectively with others identifying and correctly use equipment, processes and procedures interpreting and following operational instructions and prioritising work operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with workplace operating procedures reading and interpreting relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs reporting and/or rectifying identified problems, faults or malfunctions promptly, in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures working collaboratively with others.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

application of relevant agreements, codes of practice or other legislative requirements defects that may be identified when de-rigging a crane and appropriate action that should be taken guidelines and codes of practices relating to the safe use of machinery and equipment hazard management consistent with the principle of hierarchy of control with elimination, substitution, isolation and engineering control measures being selected before safe working practices and personal protective equipment high risk work and mobile crane licence requirements mobile crane applications, capacities, configurations, safety hazards and control mechanisms operational procedures for crane crews concerning de-rigging of cranes, and packing and storing tools and equipment operational work systems and equipment relevant heavy vehicle national regulations relevant road rules, regulations, permit and licence requirements for mobile crane operation.
