Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for general train examination
- Location of examination and information about items to be examined are obtained and activities are planned
- Materials, documentation and equipment required for the examination are identified, obtained and prepared for use
- Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and risk control measures are implemented
- Examination is started at planned time and location to minimise delays to train availability
- Train identification and status is confirmed and required actions are taken to ensure train remains safe for duration of examination
- Individual responsibilities required to complete examination are agreed with relevant personnel
- Conditions are assessed and necessary actions are taken to ensure examination is effective
- Undertake general train examination
- Examination is undertaken in accordance with organisational procedures
- Communication is maintained with relevant personnel to ensure safe, efficient and complete examination
- Condition of rolling stock, couplings and load are examined and dimensions are confirmed appropriate to wagon type and gauge outline requirements
- Irregularities and load contamination are identified and appropriate action is taken in accordance with organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures
- Obvious wagon or carriage faults and their locations are reported in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
- Apparent problems are investigated further and corrected where possible
- Report examination results
- Conditions requiring urgent action are reported in accordance with organisational policies and procedures, and appropriate action is taken to initiate immediate response
- Relevant personnel are informed of remedial or other action required prior to completion of examination
