Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for tip truck operations
  2. Conduct tip truck pre-operational checks

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements, performance criteria and range of conditions and include:

completing tip truck operations safely, effectively and efficiently, and meeting all required outcomes on a minimum of three (3) separate occasions including:

applying load cover

carrying out inspections and identifying faults

carrying out log-on, pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures

obtaining and applying signage requirements

operating, steering, manoeuvring and positioning tip truck

organising work activities to comply with site standards

processing written records and reports

raising and lowering tray smoothly

safely discharging load according to site conditions and work instructions

stopping and parking tip truck

locating and applying relevant documentation, policies and procedures on at least one (1) occasion

working effectively with others to undertake and complete tip truck operations to meet all required outcomes on at least one (1) occasion including:

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements, performance criteria and range of conditions and include knowledge of:

load quantity calculations

operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures

permit conditions including where and when they apply

recording and reporting procedures

reporting faults in vehicles and ancillary equipment

safety data sheet (SDS)/material safety data sheet (MSDS) and materials handling methods

safety requirements

site isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

start up and shutdown procedures

tip truck types, characteristics, technical capabilities, limitations and suitability

vehicle specifications and limitations including:

mass

dimensions

volumes

axle weights.
