Elements and Performance Criteria

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying correct methods for ascending and descending a tanker ladder

completing documentation required for discharging a dangerous goods tanker including:

dangerous goods shipping documentation, current Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) Code

transport regulations as they apply to the enterprise, including local authority regulations and procedures

relevant Australian Standards and certification requirements

workplace policies and procedures

relevant internal data entry books, including logbooks, data sheets and load sheets

connecting transfer equipment

identifying and interpreting containers and goods coding, markings and emergency information panels for mode of transport/storage selected

reading and interpreting relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs

using emergency equipment including:

emergency shutdown controls

evacuation controls

eye wash equipment and safety showers

fire extinguishers

spill control equipment

using personal protective equipment and safety measures including:

chemical resistant gloves

communication devices

evacuation controls

high visibility clothing and safety vest

intrinsically safe, full cover protective clothing

safety headwear and footwear

safety glasses.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

applicable legislative procedures and codes

current ADG Code

environmental protection legislation and regulations

fatigue management regulations

relevant state/territory roads and traffic authority driving regulations and licence or permit requirements for operating heavy vehicles on unsealed roads

road rules

work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation

characteristics of various classes of explosives and dangerous goods relevant to handling the class of explosives and dangerous goods concerned

compatibility of various types of explosives and dangerous goods

control operation

relevant WHS/OHS and environmental procedures and regulations

risks and hazards when loading, unloading and handling explosives and dangerous goods, and related precautions to control the risks

workplace procedures and policies for loading and unloading explosives and dangerous goods.
