Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Follow WHS/OHS requirements
   • Personal protective equipment is selected and worn
   • Unsuitable personal protective equipment is reported
   • Platforms are stood on with both feet and handles are held with two hands with an appropriate grip, in accordance with workplace policies and risk assessment procedures
   • Policies and procedures relating to alighting from and boarding vehicle are followed
   • Emergency stopping systems are identified and are actioned in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
2. Assess risks
   • Occupational hazards are correctly identified, recorded and reported in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
   • Occupational risks are assessed, recorded and reported based on identified hazards in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
3. Mitigate risks
   • Risk mitigation controls are developed, selected and implemented in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
   • Risk mitigation controls are evaluated and amended as required in accordance with workplace policies and procedures
4. Use communications systems effectively
   • Communication with driver is undertaken effectively
   • Other workplace alerts and signals are identified and explained
   • Alerts and signals are followed in accordance with workplace policies and procedures

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

actioning emergency stopping systems in accordance with workplace policies and procedures applying correct procedures for alighting from vehicle applying correct techniques for standing on vehicle platform completing and maintaining required documentation and records in accordance with workplace policies and procedures applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards developing and implementing risk mitigation controls appropriate to the situation evaluating risk mitigation controls and implementing identified amendments in accordance with workplace policies and procedures identifying and reporting occupational hazards and risks in accordance with workplace policies and procedures identifying emergency stopping systems reading interpreting and following relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs reporting unsuitable personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with workplace policies and procedures selecting and using required PPE in accordance with organisational, industry and WHS/OHS standards using communications strategies effectively, including: communications equipment such as a buzzer, two-way radio or horn documented hand or other signals and workplace alerts.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements, performance criteria and include knowledge of:

communications strategies relevant WHS/OHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice, standards, policies and procedures relevant state/territory road and traffic authority road rules, regulations and permits workplace documentation, policies and procedures workplace alerts and signals workplace policies and risk assessment procedures for workers standing on a platform, including: safely positioning feet and hands maximum vehicle speed limits alighting from and boarding vehicle restrictions on riding on a platform.
