Elements and Performance Criteria
- Provide information on legislative requirements, workplace policies and procedures
- Legislative requirements for dangerous goods and hazardous substances are identified, stored and retrieved as required
- Information on WHS/OHS policies and safeworking procedures relating to storing dangerous goods and hazardous substances is stored in a readily accessible location and manner
- Information on legislative requirements, workplace policies and safe work procedures relating to storing dangerous goods and hazardous substances is accurately and clearly explained to work group
- Information on the outcome of hazard identification, risk assessment and control measure implementation is accurately and clearly explained to work group
- Implement and monitor procedures for identifying hazards and assessing risks
- Dangerous goods or hazardous substances are identified from information provided, including class labels, manifests, safety data sheets (SDSs)/material safety data sheets (MSDSs) and other documentation
- Confirmation is sought from relevant personnel where potentially dangerous goods or hazardous substances do not appear to be appropriately marked
- Risks associated with storing identified dangerous goods or hazardous substances are assessed, reported/recorded in accordance with workplace policy
- Implement and monitor risk control procedures
- Established risk control measures for safely storing dangerous goods and hazardous substances are implemented, monitored and reviewed in accordance with workplace procedures
- Workplace procedures to control risks are implemented
- Adherence to risk control procedures by work group is monitored in accordance with workplace procedures
- Improvements to existing risk control measures are identified, including required resources for implementation, and reported to appropriate personnel, as required
- Procedures for monitoring and controlling risks comply with the hierarchy of risk controls
