Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying precautions and required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards

applying relevant legislation and workplace procedures

communicating effectively with others

controlling traffic by:

ensuring safe and efficient movement of all vehicular and pedestrian traffic

assisting movement of oversized or overmassed (OSOM) vehicle being escorted

implementing contingency plans

modifying activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments

monitoring work activities in terms of planned schedule

reading, interpreting and following relevant instructions and operating procedures

rectifying and/or reporting identified problems promptly, in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures

selecting and correctly using signage

using handheld signs

using personal protective equipment and clothing in accordance with work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements

working collaboratively with others

working safely in accordance with instructions

working systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods, vehicles or equipment.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

electronic communications operating procedures

emergency management plan

operating procedures for controlling traffic during piloting duties

purpose of required personal protective equipment and instructions for its use

relevant journey documentation

relevant national heavy vehicle legislation and regulatory requirements

requirements of traffic control during mishaps or accidents

verbal and non-verbal communication techniques

workplace and equipment safety requirements, and relevant WHS/OHS legislation.
