Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying legislative requirements, workplace procedures and policies

communicating:

fault reporting

verbal instructions

complying with state/territory regulations and codes of practice

controlling traffic flow in accordance with traffic management plans

implementing consistent and timely traffic management plans that safely, effectively and efficiently meet required outcomes

implementing requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient implementation of traffic management plans

working collaboratively with others to undertake and complete traffic management plans that meet all required outcomes.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

job safety analysis (JSA) or a safe operating procedure

potential hazards

processes for calculating travel time

radio and electronic communications

relevant compliance documentation including:

Australian Standards (AS)

codes of practice

legislative, organisational and site requirements and procedures

requirements, procedures and instructions for implementing traffic management plans

requirements set down by relevant:

state/territory codes of practice

AS such as AS 1742.3 Manual of uniform traffic control devices (MUTCD) – Traffic control for works on roads

safe work method statement (SWMS)

safety requirements including:

emergency procedures

safe operating procedures, including recognising and preventing hazards associated with the working environment

site and equipment safety requirements

signs and devices such as:

regulatory and traffic control devices

regulatory and traffic cones

temporary warning signs

traffic management systems

tunnel and open road terminology

use of tools and equipment including:

arrow boards

barricades

barriers

bollards

cones

delineators

high visibility vests

notebooks

pens

radios

signage

signalling devices

stop-slow bats

warning lights and beacons.
