Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Identify major organisational areas of the transport industry
  2. Apply legislation, regulations and codes of practice governing the transport industry
  3. Identify key elements of industrial relations environment in which the driver works

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying relevant guidelines for using equipment as it applies to the driver job role

applying relevant legislation as it applies to driver job role

explaining contract arrangements for different job roles

explaining workplace policies and procedures, regulations, products and services relating to the driver job role

identifying and correctly using equipment, processes and procedures

reading and interpreting instructions, procedures, information and signs relevant to the driver job role.


Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

customer service standards and procedures

depot/company locations

emergency procedures

key elements of industrial relations relevant to the transport industry

personal protective equipment and instructions for its use

relevant legislation for driving role

relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental procedures and regulations

requirements of customers with specific needs

routine workplace documentation and record keeping procedures and requirements

sources of information and documentation for the transport industry

workplace hazards and related hazard minimisation procedures

workplace procedures, codes of practice, standards and duty of care requirements as they apply to the transport industry

workplace products and services, and their features

workplace structures including roles and responsibilities.
