Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare to operate a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner
   • Environmental regulations for operating vehicles are identified and clarified as required
   • Workplace environmentally sustainable practices for operating vehicles are identified and clarified as required
   • Potential environmental factors that may impact on operating vehicles are identified
2. Operate a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner
   • Environmental regulations for operating vehicles in an environmentally sustainable manner are complied with
   • Environmental factors are considered when operating vehicles
3. Follow environmentally sustainable operating procedures
   • Vehicle maintenance efficiencies are identified to ensure vehicle is operating at optimum levels
   • Vehicle performance is monitored and appropriate action is taken in response to inefficient performance, including basic maintenance
   • Performance inefficiencies are reported to appropriate personnel

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

applying techniques for operating a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner interpreting and following operational instructions and prioritising work monitoring performance of a vehicle, and taking appropriate action as required operating and adapting to differences in equipment in accordance with workplace procedures reading and interpreting relevant instructions, procedures, information and signs working collaboratively with others.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

efficient driving techniques and environmental driving considerations, including factors than can affect the environment if not operating a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner factors that may cause traffic delays and diversions and related action that can be taken by a driver relevant legislation and workplace procedures for operating vehicles in an environmentally sustainable manner relevant state/territory road traffic authority road rules, regulations, permit and licence requirements relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) and environmental procedures and regulations for operating a vehicle in an environmentally sustainable manner workplace documentation workplace driving and operational instructions.
