Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Clip and secure points
2. Advice is confirmed as to the location and identification of points to be clipped and secured
3. Position that points are to be clipped in is confirmed
4. Relevant yard personnel are contacted and informed as required, in accordance with network owner policies and procedures
5. Equipment is checked for availability and suitability to perform job in accordance with network owner policies and procedures
6. Points are placed in correct position as required, accordance with network owner policies and procedures
7. Points clips are fitted in correct position and locked as required, in accordance with network owner policies and procedures
8. Relevant yard personnel are notified that points are clipped and secured
9. Remove points clip
10. Advice is confirmed as to location and identification of points to be unclipped
11. Equipment is removed from track, secured and stowed appropriately
12. Points are restored to correct position as required, in accordance with network owner policies and procedures
13. Relevant yard personnel are notified that clip and where used, lock has been removed
14. Apply safety devices
15. Advice is confirmed as to location and identification of safety device/s to be applied
16. Position safety device/s are to be placed in is confirmed
17. Equipment is checked for integrity in accordance with network owner policies and procedures
18. Safety device/s are placed in correct position and locked as required, in accordance with network owner policies and procedures
19. Relevant yard personnel are notified that safety device/s are applied and secured
20. Remove safety devices
21. Advice is confirmed as to location and identification of safety device/s to be removed
22. Safety device/s are removed from track, secured and stowed appropriately
23. Relevant yard personnel are notified that safety device/s and where used, lock, has been removed

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include:

clipping and unclipping points correctly communicating effectively with individuals and/or groups determining location of points to be clipped in accordance with workplace procedures identifying job hazards and taking required action to minimise, control or eliminate identified hazards measuring distances accurately reading and interpreting organisational and/or network owner procedures for placing and removing points, clips and safety devices.

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:

organisational and/or network owner policies and procedures for placing and removing points, clips and safety devices relevant rail danger zones relevant sections of applicable state/territory legislative and regulatory rail safety requirements, codes of practice and/or guidelines relevant work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements and work practices.
