Description | This unit specifies the competency required to perform inspections of existing buildings to assess accessibility. The building inspections may be conducted for a wide range of purposes, including building upgrades, and on behalf of potential building purchasers. The assessments are made using current building codes and standards or 'when built' legislation. The access audit report will provide a description of accessibility, advice on compliance with existing legislation and usability by people with disabilities, and where necessary suggestions for corrective action.The unit requires the ability to communicate with building owners and managers on the interpretation and implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and building legislation.The access consultant may either work alone or as a member of a team. | ||
