Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills required to ensure compliance with security procedures, maintain the safety and security of staff and/or offenders and maintain safety and security documentation.This unit applies to those working with offenders/detainees/staff in prisons, secure custodial centres and community facilities under custodial supervision, with responsibility for managing security matters.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to, particularly those related to managing security.Those undertaking this unit work independently, drawing upon support from a range of established resources. The role requires complex task organisation, analysis and decision making skills. Working as part of a coordinated team is integral to the role. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Evidence for assessment must be gathered over time in a range of contexts to ensure the person can achieve the unit outcome and apply the competency in different situations or environments.

Valid assessment of this unit requires a workplace environment or one that closely resembles normal work practice and replicates the range of conditions likely to be encountered by an individual responsible for managing security, including coping with difficulties, irregularities and changes to routine.
